Common Complications of Nephrotic Syndrome

  1.Infection

Due to lost of immunoglobin through urine, the plasma protein decreases, which has bad effect on the antibody formation. The usage of adrenal cortical hormone and cytotoxic drugs decreases the patient’s resistance and then the patient is easy to be infected. The infections include skin infection, idiopathic pertonitis, respiration infections, urinary tract infection, and even sepsis.

  2.Coronary Heart Disease

Hyperlipidemia and hypercoagulable state of Nephrotic syndrome patients lead to coronary heart disease. There is report that says the incidence of myocardial infarction of Nephrotic syndrome patients is eight times higher than the normal. Coronary heart disease has become the third factor (after infection and Renal failure)causing the death of the Nephrotic syndrome patients.

  3.Thrombosis

Nephrotic syndrome patients prone to thrombus. Membranous nepropathy incidence is 25%~40%. Reasons for thrombus are edema, less of activity, intravenous choked, hyperlipidemia, viscosity increasing by blood concentration, excessive of fibrinogen and so on.

  4.Acute Renal failure

Because of large number of proteinuria, hypoproteinemia and hyperlipemia, the state of body is always low blood volume and high condensation. Vomiting, diarrhea, use of antihypertensive drugs and diuresis can make the renal blood perfusion amount reduce significantly. Hence the GFR reduces, which leads to the acute Renal failure. Besides, renal interstitial edema and tube blockage causing by protein concentration can also lead to acute Renal failure.

  5.Electrolytes and Metabolic Disorders

Repeated use of diuretics and long-term unreasonably ban salt cause the secondary hyponatremia in patients with Nephrotic syndrome.Usage of adrenal cortical hormone and a large number of diuretics lead to a lot of urine. Without timely supplement of potassium, patients prone to hypokalemia.
