  What kind of food can IgA Nephropathy patients eat? People with IgA Nephropathy need to have a different diet with healthy person, as there are some foods that they need to avoid. For these patients, they should eat foods that do good to their kidney and this will help them to have a tight control about IgA Nephropathy. Well, what kind of food can IgA Nephropthy patients eat?

  Foods that are recommended for IgA Nephropathy patients must be harmless for kidney. Basing on the principle, the following foods are suitable:

  Foods with high quality protein

  High quality protein can be found in lean meat, egg white, milk and fish. It contains essential amino-acid which can provide necessary nutrition for our body and meanwhile produce less waste. Though high quality protein is recommended for IgA Nephropathy patients, they need to limit the intake of it. How much protein is needed by IgA Nephropathy patients depends on their specific illness.

 

  Low salt foods

  IgA Nephropathy patients run a certain risk for high blood pressure which can cause further damages on kidney. To control blood pressure into normal range effectively, IgA Nephropathy patients need to follow a low-salt diet.

  

 

  Foods low in potassium

  IgA Nephropathy affects kidney and cause decrease of kidney function. Kidney is responsible for maintaining a balanced potassium level. When kidney function is impaired severely, kidney will be failed to function properly. Under such a condition, eating too much high potassium foods will cause elevation of potassium level in blood, which is extremely harmful for heart. Therefore, in daily diet, IgA Nephropathy patients should choose low potassium foods such as alfalfa sprouts, cooked leeks, boiled collards, boiled eggplant, raw cucumber, raw iceberg lettuce and cauliflower and so on.

  

 

  High calcium foods

  If calcium level in blood is lower than the reference value, IgA Nephropathy patients need to eat more high calcium foods like Chinese cabbage, low fat milk, cooked okra and broccoli and so on.

  We have mentioned some foods that are recommended for IgA Nephropathy patients, but unfortunately, not everyone with IgA Nephropathy can eat these foods, as illness differs from case to case.
